Since i work as an IT Administrator, on average i get about 4 calls per day about windows running slow. Most of the time its nothing much, just cleaning it up a bit will do. But you may also need to upgrade your system for a good performance. Here is one way that you can increase the speed of windows.

NOTE : Doing these may not give a huge boost to your computers performance. In that case consult an IT guy on what you can do to improve the performance of your system.
DISCLAIMER : Please read carefully and make sure you understand these steps before attempting any of these, LazyBytes or myself will not be taking responsiblity for any problem(s) this may cause.
Clean the temp files
When ever you use a software your files are cached in the temp folders. Increase in the size of the temp folders can cause your system to slow down. There are two locations of temp folders, one is windows temp folder and the other is local user temp folder. And also there are Temporary Internet Files folder (which saves local copies of websites that you visit) and History folder (which is your browsing history). Lets clean them both one by one shall we,
- First open up ‘My Computer‘ and open your windows installation drive (which usually is C: Drive).
- Open ‘WINDOWS’ folder and inside find the ‘Temp’ folder.
- Open ‘Temp’ folder and select everything inside ‘Temp’ folder, DONOT Delete Temp Folder, (Ctrl + A or Right Click and select ‘Select All’) and Shift + Delete
- Once that completes, go back to ‘My Computer’ and open your windows installation drive again.
- This time open ‘Documents and Settings’ folder and look for a folder named ‘Local Settings’ and open it
- Inside Local Settings you will find folders named Temp, Temporary Internet Files and History
- Just like you did in step 3, open each folder and delete its contents, DO NOT delete Temp, Temporary Internet Files or History
NOTE: If you do not see that folder you have to goto Tools from file menu and select Folder Options once there select View tab and under Advanced Settings find Hidden files and folders now change it from Do not show to show and click OK
