Ever since the rapid use of mobile phones our contacts has always been in our pocket. No more phonebooks or contact books. But what if something happens to your mobile device? Whats going to happen to your contacts? Do you start gathering all the contacts all over again? Why not make backups

Why Google Contacts?

There are many ways to make backups of your contacts. There are applications which let you save backups of your contacts on your computer in many different formats. But in my opinion, online backup has got many advantages. Such as, using a service like Gmail Contacts (Google Contacts) gives you guarantee and security of your valuable information. And it is safe and accessible from anywhere with an internet connection, which means even if your laptop or backup hard drive crashes your contacts are still going to be safe. And it is a very good idea to keep multiple backups, for example on your computer, on your backup disk and on a service such as Google Contacts.

Since iPhone is one of the most common mobile phone these days, i will start with it. But i will post on how to make backups on other mobile phones in a very near future. So lets get on with it

How to

First connect your iPhone to your computer and open up iTunes.

Now navigate to the “Info” tab under your device in iTunes.

Under Contacts tick Sync Address Book contacts and select All Contacts or Selected groups, which ever fits your requirements. Now tick Sync  Google Contacts and click Configure. This will popup a box to enter your Google Account details, enter your username and password and click OK.

Thats it. Now every time you sync your iPhone to iTunes, all your contacts will automatically sync with your Google Contacts
