Been locked out from your own computer can be very frustrating. Forgetting your own login password or forgetting the administrator password of your computer system is pretty common around us. When this happens many people format their computer system and re-install windows. But there is another solution for this problem. NTFS offline password reset is your buddy at time like these.
Windows stores its encrypted password in a file called ’sam’. It can be located in ‘\windows\system32\config’. So NTFS offline password reset access this file and resets the password for you. You will need a blank CD or a USB device to write the bootable image. This application has got no GUI (Graphical User Interface), but it is a very simple and easy to use software so you have not got much to worry about.
How to
- First of all, you will have to download the CD image which can be found at http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/
- Now open the downloaded file with your favorite CD burning tool (eg: Nero, ISO burner) and write the image to the CD
- When that is done, insert the CD into the windows system of which you want to reset the password and boot from the CD (in most computers pressing F12 while it restarts will show you a temporary boot screen, when the list appears select your CD ROM from the list )
- When the CD has booted up you should see a command line interface, follow the on screen information to rest your password
When the process completes restart your computer and you should have access to your windows machine.
NOTE : You mite have to do this once or twice for it to work. It works better when you try to reset your password instead of changing the password.
