You can always connect to your iPhone via FTP and browse through the file system. But for an average user this can be the hardest thing ever. A while back one of my friends asked me weather there was another way to connect to your iPhone without the FTP setup, I did some googling and found iPhone Browser.
iPhone Browser http://code.google.com/p/iphonebrowser/
Which is a very simple little application that lets you connect your iPhone via USB and browse through your iPhone’s file system. It has also got some sweet shortcuts for your most favorite folders eg: Ringtones, Winterboad, UI Sounds etc. iPhone Browser is available at – http://code.google.com/p/iphonebrowser/

Now for the only problem i found in this handy application. Unfortunately iPhone Browser is only for Windows, no Mac version! So after a little more googling i found iPhone Explorer.
iPhone Explorer – http://www.iphone-explorer.com/
There is not much deference from iPhone Browser other than that it supports windows and mac and that its got one sweet GUI. The windows GUI looks a little more like iPhone Browser. You can also preview your files on your iPhone without copying them to your computer, which is a very handy and sweet feature if you have got many files on your iPhone.

So all you windows users looking for another solution to connect your iPhone to your computer, you have got 2 great options. And all you macs, even it is a single choice for you, i think its a pretty awesome one.
